Half term information Autumn 2 2025

In Topic we travelled back in time to September 1666 to uncover the dramatic events of The Great Fire of London. The children learned about Samuel Pepys and his famous diary, then wrote their own diary entries from the perspective of a child living in London during the fire.

Our art lessons were ablaze with creativity! We explored the many shades and tones of flames, designed candles using oil pastels, and created striking backdrops of tissue paper flames with silhouettes of Tudor houses. During Art Week, we took inspiration from The Lights that Dance in the Night to produce stunning Northern Lights scenes above mountain landscapes.

In Science, we extended our understanding of everyday materials and their properties. We investigated which materials can be stretched, twisted, squashed, or bent, and discussed why these properties make them suitable for different objects—such as windows.

Our RE lessons focused on gift giving in connection with the Christian celebration of Christmas. We explored Advent traditions and reflected on gifts that cannot be seen, such as kindness and love. We also learned about other winter celebrations and why some people do not celebrate Christmas.

We discussed anti-bullying and ways to show kindness to others. The children identified trusted people they can turn to for help and learned about staying safe online, including age restrictions on social media and how to recognise cyberbullying.

We also enjoyed our lovely nativity performance, where the children practiced lots of singing and enhanced their performance skills. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season together!
