Half term information Autumn 1 2025

A Fantastic Start to Year 1!
Year 1 have had a brilliant beginning to the school year. This term, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed diving into our topic on animals. The children have explored how to classify animals into different types and have learnt all about carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. Their curiosity and enthusiasm have made our science lessons a joy!

Our Brilliant Day at Castle Hedingham!
One of the highlights of the term was our trip to Castle Hedingham. The children were immersed in medieval life and had the chance to meet Sam the archer, who taught them how to stay safe and warm, and even how to shoot an arrow!
They took part in castle jousting games, explored historical utensils used by different social groups—from simple clay for poor servants, to leather for high servants, and even cows’ horn for lords and ladies!
A medicinal servant shared fascinating herbal remedies, such as rosemary to help memory and mint to soothe poorly tummies. During knight training, the children held pieces of armour, examined tools, and discovered that the most important item a knight could own was… a spoon!
