Half Term Information Spring 2 2024

Much of our English learning this half-term has been based around our geography topic of Rivers and mountains. The children really enjoyed ‘The Secret of Black Rock’ and produced some exciting alternative endings to the story. Our focus on comprehension and inference has continued in reading and included topic based texts.

In maths we have covered the fractions unit and are enjoying our 'Fraction Friday' lessons where we explore fractions in action using a range of interesting and practical activities. We have also learnt about decimals and their relationships to fractions.

The children have enjoyed learning about animal habitats and classification. They have created their own methods for classifying animals alongside learning about the Carl Lennaeus system for classification.

In RE the children have learnt about forgiveness and the Easter story. They particularly enjoyed sampling hot cross buns when they learnt about their symbolic meaning.

In PSHE we have been learning about personal safety and explored a range of safe and unsafe scenarios for secrets. The children identified their own support network and created a poster showing the statement 'No means No!'

Children’s comments about their learning:

"I loved the hot cross buns," Charlotte

"I enjoyed the soft pastry and the sweet raisins,"  Arthur
"I didn't like it, it tasted like soap," Reece
"I learnt that hot cross buns represent Jesus dying on the cross but before that it was the four seasons," Irmak
