Half term information Summer 2 2025

We are delighted to share the fantastic learning journey our Year 5 children have experienced during the second half of the summer term. It has been a busy, exciting, and enriching period filled with a variety of engaging activities across all subjects.

This term, students have been immersing themselves in the magical world of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. They have developed their reading skills by exploring the story and understanding its themes. In addition, the children demonstrated their comprehension and writing skills by creating a lively newspaper report about the exciting magical events in Chapter 1. Their reports captured the mystery and wonder of the story, showcasing their ability to write with detail and enthusiasm.

Our trip to the Harry Potter Studios was a highlight of the term! The children enjoyed exploring the sets, learning about the special effects, and discovering how the magical world was brought to life. It was an inspiring experience that sparked their imagination and deepened their understanding of storytelling and film production.

In PE, the children had a fantastic time participating in Quidditch fun! They learned the basic rules and practiced their teamwork and coordination through exciting drills and games. Additionally, Sports Day was a great success, with the children competing in various races and activities, demonstrating great sportsmanship and enthusiasm.

In science lessons, the children studied the human lifecycle. They learned about the different stages of growth from birth to old age, understanding how humans develop and change over time. The children enjoyed creating diagrams and linking with SRE, discussing how to care for their bodies during puberty.

This term, we explored and compared different creation stories from various cultures and religions. The children examined how different beliefs explain the origins of the world and reflected on the similarities and differences between these stories. It was a thoughtful and respectful exploration of diverse perspectives.

We are incredibly proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm our Phoenix and Lacerta have shown this term. They have demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and teamwork in all their activities. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and learning in the upcoming transition to year 6.
