Half term information Summer 2 2025

This half term our topic was World War II. The children have learned about the complex build-up of events that led to the beginning of the war, the countries that comprised the allies and the axis and explored what life would have been like in Britain and Europe during World War 2 for ordinary people. We have researched the blitz, evacuation and rationing. We have learned about Anne Frank and the holocaust and had discussions around how and why it happened. Our World War 2 learning was consolidated with a fantastic WOW day in which the children got to experience a 1940’s lesson and air raid role play. The children then completed a carousel of WWII activities Including building a model Anderson Shelter, cracking some Morse Code and making Bread and Butter Pudding.

Elsewhere in the curriculum, the children studied the human digestive system in science and explored the effects of different liquids on eggshells to simulate the effects of a high-sugar diet on teeth. We all agreed that brushing our teeth regularly is super important for healthy teeth and gums! In PE, the children were able to develop their individual athletics skills in Pentathlon events and practiced Tennis.  Sportsmanship was evident across the year group on sports day, with the children displaying great teamwork and resilience. In Maths, we have explored geometry, position, direction, and handling data such as pictograms, bar charts and line graphs.
