Spring 2 Half Term Information 2021
This half term we journeyed through the Americas as part of our North American topic- both in school and at home during lockdown. We followed the progress of Tom carefully while studying The Boy Who Biked the World as part of our English learning. The children created their own setting descriptions while visiting Machu Pichu, crafted instructions for how to light a fire and even practised the use of show me don’t tell me within their writing to build up tension for the reader.
This term, we have switched on the lights, with many ‘lightbulb’ moments. Investigations began by considering how we can use electrical components to create different circuits and we have also spent time drawing our own personally designed parallel and series circuits. We then began to explore light and shadow, enjoying many interesting investigations along the way. The children began by using torches to explore shadows before moving onto refraction of light within water. Most recently the children have enjoyed investigating the light spectrum through the use of prisms.
As well as this, during Maths we got lost in a world of measures! We looked into the difference between imperial and metric measures including converting different units of length, mass and capacity. After that we delved into the topic of multiplication, first calculating answers before solving missing number and spot the mistake problems.
