Half Term Information Summer 2 2022
To begin half term we were able to enjoy a variety of activities as part of STEM week. The children learned about different cell types in a talk with one of the parents before programming robots to find them. They also had the opportunity to make their own slime to take home at the end of the day using a variety of interesting ingredients. During the week there were various other opportunities for children to learn and investigate including STEM challenges set by Cambourne Village College where the children filtered pond water.
We read the excellent and very thought provoking Wonder text in English this half term. The children took time to consider what beauty means and reflected on how this is seen within society. We role-played different scenarios between characters including a school tour and wrote a diary entry from different characters point of view. We also learnt about precepts and their value within the book.
This term, we have been practising our athletics skills in PE to help prepare the children for sports day. The children worked on a variety of running, jumping and throwing events. We enjoyed trying different throwing events including javelin and discuss.
Our Year 6 production- Pantastic took a lot of time to prepare in class. We began by mastering the songs in class including a number of solo efforts from children. The children worked tirelessly to learn their lines and generate props for the show before performing for two sold out evening audiences, we were extremely proud of the final result.
Quotes from children:
“I really enjoyed when James Boffin visited for STEM week, he even did an experiment with a leaf blower and a toilet roll,” – Abdulrahman
“The SAW project was really fun getting to do lots of different activities within the same day. Particularly using the microscopes as this we don’t use them very often,” – Marcelina
“It was an enjoyable experience to put together such a big production with a live audience for Pantastic,” – Manas
