Half Term Information Spring 1 2022
Our English learning this half-term has been based around The Vikings V the Anglo-Saxons topic, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. They created their own Viking characters and then wrote their own Viking story, based on what they have learnt in English, Topic and Guided Reading. Continuing with our mastery approach to Maths, we have continued to cover multiplication and division, as well as looking at perimeter and area. We ended the term by starting our fractions topic, which we will continue with next half term.
The children have been incredibly excited about starting their swimming lessons, and so far have enjoyed all their sessions. They really are becoming water confident! Outside, we have been working intensely on fast running skills, as well accuracy in throwing, and strength in jumping.
The rousing BBC Viking Sagas have been thoroughly enjoyed by the children – Loki the Joker being a particular favourite. Near the end of the term we had a keen eye on the Bird Cam as part of the National Bird Survey, and can now identify a range of garden birds including: Robins, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Collared Doves, Pigeons, Crows and Blackbids!
Children’s comments about their learning:
“I love going swimming and my favourite part is going on the coach.”
“I like learning about how Vikings made long boats.”
“I enjoyed singing Viking songs, especially Thor the Thunderer.”
