Termly Information Autumn 2 2019

Year 2 have been learning all about the Great Fire of London this half term. We went to visit the Samuel Pepys library at Magdalene College in Cambridge where we were lucky enough to see Samuel Pepys’s own books and bookcases; we were even able to see the original copy of one of his diaries, which we had been learning about at school! We were able to look around Cambridge and spot lots of exciting things in the city. We have finished our topic with a WOW day at school where we dressed up in amazing costumes and made bread, experimented with wattle and daub, made fire pictures and made our own model of Pudding Lane, where the fire started.

As well as all of our exciting topic work we had great fun investigating a strange occurrence in Indigo class. We interviewed Mrs Jarman and Mrs Howell and wrote our own newspaper reports about the incident, it was great fun!

Children’s comments about their learning:

“Samuel Pepys buried cheese in his garden to protect it from the fire.”

“The Great Fire of London started in Pudding Lane.”

“If a tea-pot was made of chocolate it would melt very quickly!”

“I don’t think I would like a coat made from paper.”
